Charles is exploring Sebastian’s research into posterior cortical atrophy (PCA). This rare form of dementia is characterised by a progressive impairment in the ability to see what and where things are, and many patients experience difficulty perceiving the visual world as a coherent whole.
Charles is looking to understand how PCA specifically affects daily life – what are the most frustrating obstacles/tasks for patients, and how they overcome them. To capture a complete picture of the research he is also studying the technical aspects of Sebastian’s work, such as the recordings of gaze positions.
Actively engaging with the people most affected by PCA, Charles and Sebastian have been showing some of Charles’ pieces to patients and their carers for comments to feed back into the creative process.
