Art Neuro is exploring the world of neuroscience through the visual arts to provide an exciting, thought-provoking and unique visual experience. We have teamed up 16 artists and 16 neuroscientists to work together in pairs to illustrate the importance of current neuroscience research. The artists will be immersed in this fascinating world of science, which will culminate in a collection of artworks that communicate their experience and the science behind it.
We have gathered an array of artists, from cartoonists to erotic photographers, textile artists to ceramists, and painters to graphic designers, so there will be something for everyone! The wide range of neuroscience covered includes Alzheimer’s disease, brain cancer, autism, mental heath, addiction, pain processing, and much more! We are following each of the collaborations from now until the exhibition, to see what they get up to take a look here.
The exhibition will take place at the Rag Factory, off Brick Lane, in East London from the 6th- 9th November 2014. Our private view will be held on Thursday 6th of November, all the scientists and artists will be there discussing the science behind their work, so come down for drinks and an opportunity to discover more from the creators themselves. On the weekend we have a fantastic programme of activities and workshops, including screen-printing brains throughout evolution, a mental health panel discussion, knitting neurons, and a live memory experiment.
Art Neuro was conceived by Supatra Marsh and co-curated by Diliana Pecheva, Jamie Upton, and Viviana Robles. We are grateful to QMUL Centre for Public Engagement, QMUL Arts and Culture, UCL Step Out, and the Society of Biology for their funding that helped Art Neuro become a reality.
